Job Details

Are you a strategic thinker that loves to tackle problems? Do you have a passion for maths? Do you want to work for the UK largest insurer, and help protect our customers?

If so, why not follow in the footsteps of our previous Actuarial Graduate Scheme Trainees and your hard work could see you develop into a well-rounded Actuary and be well on your way to becoming one of Aviva's “Leaders of the Future”!

So, what do actuaries do at Aviva?

Insurance is a risky business - which is why actuaries are so significant. They help us manage our risks. They focus on the future – on what could happen. They are problem solvers and strategic thinkers. They share a love of maths and use all these outstanding qualities to help people and organisations to protect themselves from the unexpected. At Aviva, actuaries are highly visible figures who drive our business and are at the heart of our strategy and values. Our UK Life Insurance CEO, Angela Darlington, is one of a number of highly experienced and respected Actuaries who hold executive positions within our organisation.

About the Actuarial Graduate Scheme:

We are UK’s largest insurer, a FTSE 100 company and a market leader globally so we are able to leverage all the fantastic expertise we have in house as well as partnering with training providers to help us develop well-rounded Actuaries with insurance orientated actuarial, financial and commercial knowledge.

How long is the scheme? The duration of the scheme is dependant on how long it takes you to complete your professional exams, usually 4 years. At Aviva we pride ourselves on the fact that our actuarial pass rates are consistently well above the national average year-on-year!

You’re likely to follow a Level 7 Apprenticeship pathway (which is equivalent to a Masters degree) and then we’ll give you the support you need to become a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Our fully sponsored study package will provide you with the tools and the time necessary to give you the best opportunity to pass your exams first time.

How is this achieved? It is achieved through a blend of work experience, professional development and professional examinations. You will complete a rotation every 24 months to a different actuarial team in our UK Region. You can be assured that the rotations will be varied, challenging and enjoyable, providing you with an unrivalled breadth of experience based on what best matches your developmental requirements.

Entry criteria:

Although you don't need a degree in Actuarial Science, you will be someone who loves a bit of problem solving and who has a commercial approach, so:

  • You will have studied a STEM or numerical discipline at degree level;
  • Be on target to obtain a 2:1 and;
  • Hold 120 UCAS points from three A-levels (not including General Studies), with at least a grade B in Maths.

Why Aviva’s scheme?

We provide full support to give our Graduates the best chance of passing their exams first time. We partner with an internationally recognised training provider, we pay for all your travel, accommodation and subsistence costs if attending tutorials, you get up to 50 days study leave a year and we also fund your membership to the IFoA and your exam fees.

We also provide our Graduates with one-to-one support to ensure they can balance the demands of a full-time role while studying towards their professional exams. We give you access to a line manager, a buddy AND a qualified mentor. You also have an encouraging team around you and business-wide networking opportunities to help you succeed.

Other benefits:

  • Starting annual salary of £26,000 with an increase for each examination passed.
  • Annual performance-related bonus.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • Generous 29 day’s holiday, plus bank-holidays.
  • Discounts on Aviva products.
  • Share Save scheme.
  • Up to 50 days’ paid study leave (we know fitting exams around work can be tricky).
  • Your exam fees covered – and your Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) membership.

The recruitment process:

We believe a positive forward-thinking approach is also a key requirement for the role, allied to a passion for a successful career in business, so we search for dynamic individuals who have the makings of an outstanding leader and communicator.

Applications are now open. The recruitment process itself consists of:

  • Online Application
  • Numerical and Verbal Testing
  • Telephone Interview
  • Assessment Centre

We will be hosting an assessment centre in Bristol on the 7th and 8th August 2019.

We care about the well-being of our employees

How you feel at home, work and all aspects of your life are important to us. Our programme – ‘Be Healthy’, ‘Be Mindful’, ‘Be Secure’ and ‘Be Awesome’ supports your physical, mental, financial and social well-being.

Here are just a few highlights:

  • You can download Aviva Digital GP - a 24/7 personal GP service that enables you to get a video consultation with a GP and pharmacy service at the touch of a button
  • We offer all UK employees subscriptions to Headspace for free
