Our School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences welcomes applications for a position, full-time or part-time, as an Assistant or Associate Professor (teaching and scholarship) in actuarial science. Joining the Department of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics you will deliver innovative teaching on our actuarial, financial and statistical data science programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

To be considered for the role you will have a number of years of professional actuarial experience and an interest in teaching and teaching innovation.  A record of scholarship in one of the major actuarial disciplines, while desirable, is not essential. In addition, you will have the enthusiasm to contribute to the expansion of our successful postgraduate programmes.

The successful candidate will join a department which is internationally recognized for its research and teaching in Actuarial science with close links to the insurance industry. It hosts the IFoA’s Actuarial Research Centre – a ground breaking virtual network of actuarial researchers and partner organisations from around the world, and is the only SOA Center of Actuarial Excellence in Europe, recognizing the actuarial programmes in the Department as providing an outstanding student experience and excellent career preparation.

Our actuarial programmes are fully accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. The programmes consist of postgraduate and undergraduate courses leading to exemption from Core Technical to Specialist Technical subjects under the existing IFoA curriculum.  Our undergraduate programmes are taught in parallel in Edinburgh and on our campus in Putrajaya (Malaysia), and good organisational skills to coordinate delivery and assessment of courses across campuses in collaboration with colleagues in Malaysia are essential.

To be responsible to the Head of Department for performing the activities listed above at a standard that will maintain and enhance the School’s reputation for excellence.

To develop and deliver innovative teaching in actuarial science on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and courses offered by the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences. To bring industrial expertise to lead on developing our programmes to provide exciting, innovative teaching, in preparing our students for the actuarial challenges of the future.  To engage with the opportunities offered by the IFoA’s Curriculum 2019 to expand our teaching, and strengthen links between industrial and academic practice. To design outreach activities to inform and enhance the public perception of actuarial mathematics and statistics.
