Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver:
    • UK and Canadian GAAP results on a quarterly basis
    • Solvency II results, including capital requirements on a quarterly basis
    • Canadian capital reporting (LICAT) on a quarterly basis
    • Actuarial elements of the business plan, ORSA and FLAOR on an annual basis
    • Support other elements of the ongoing management of the business (e.g. bonus setting, investment strategy, business planning and run-off plans)
  • Develop:
    • Efficient reporting processes and strict controls around those processes
  • Communicate:
    • Communicate results to stakeholders, including the CFO, CEO, Board, With-Profits Panels, Auditors and Regulators
    • Act as the main point of contact with the Group parent in relation to Actuarial Financial Reporting
  • Team management:
    • Manage a team of actuaries/trainees
    • Develop actuaries technical and operational skills

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Qualified Actuary
  • 5 – 10 years post qualification experience
  • Strong financial reporting experience
  • Experience of working in a dynamic environment and ability to deal with change
  • Experience of managing, coaching and guiding more junior team members
  • Experience of constructively challenging and influencing a range of peers and stakeholders across multiple functions
  • Experience of drawing conclusions quickly and applying expert judgement where necessary
  • Experience of communicating results and issues effectively and succinctly to a variety of peers and senior management
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory frameworks
  • Detailed knowledge of the financial dynamics of life insurance business and how the key factors influence the various financial measures
  • Working knowledge of actuarial modelling and data conversion systems desirable
  • Working knowledge of Canadian regulatory regimes desirable but not essential
