Oliver James Associates Dublin are currently representing a globally respected Non-Life Insurer in their focus to appoint a Head of Capital Model Validation.

Oliver James Associates Dublin are currently representing a globally respected Non-Life Insurer in their focus to appoint a Head of Capital Model Validation.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Non-Life Actuary, who will report to the Head of Capital Modelling with a dotted line to the CRO. You will be an expert in actuarial models including: Solvency 2, Internal model, Data, CECS, Reserving models /VC and ORSA.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide professional actuarial/risk support and advice regarding Validation of internal model and associated input including:
    • Planning of the Annual Validation cycle
    • Review of risk type validation report and co-ordination of local office feedback
    • Preparing of the annual Board Validation report
  • Provide risk/actuarial support to the management team
  • Provide leadership to model change & governance process and validation
  • Act as a role model in embedded risk led behaviours and management style.
  • Make proactive recommendations based on personal experience

Internal relationships will include, the CRO, Chief Actuary, CFO, Head of Capital Modelling, Head of Capital Management, Non-life actuarial function and Group Wide Risk function


  • Previous validation/Capital Model/Solvency 2 project experience in relevant discipline
  • 2+ years of post-qualification experience in non-life actuarial/risk environment.
  • Experience in multiple functions and group-wide multiple BUs strongly preferred.
  • Experience of providing risk/actuarial advice to senior management.
  • Financial or Underwriting and general management experience.


  • Advanced knowledge of capital modelling and preferably model validation. Knowledge of risk practices and policies. Insurance governance and risk management frameworks with ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of finance and accounting practices, financial analysis, and reporting;
  • Intermediate knowledge of actuarial professional guidance and relevant legislation.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the insurance industry's trends, directions, key issues, regulatory considerations and trendsetters.
  • Intermediate knowledge, insight, and understanding of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Advanced knowledge of practices and policies governing disclosure of information about the organization, its business activities, and employees; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

Technical Skills:

  • Requires proficiency in English with a preference for proficiency in at least one other language.
  • Effective communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to use spreadsheet software.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical and actuarial tools and techniques and ability to apply modelling processes and techniques to facilitate risk management decisions.
  • Advanced knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve the problems in the best interest of the business.
  • Impact, credibility, and ability to influence at BU and BD levels.
  • Self-motivation and drive.
  • Professional, enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Experience at prioritizing, resourcing, planning and project management.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
