Manager - Protection Pricing

This managerial position within the Protection Pricing team includes leadership responsibilities such as line management and oversight of team outputs. The team's key functions include producing protection quotes, addressing client queries, monitoring treaty performance, and establishing pricing assumptions.

Collaboration with internal departments to improve processes, innovate products, and maintain a focus on client needs is a critical aspect of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a technical expert in reinsurance pricing for protection business, with a focus on biometric elements.
• Support the team's planning and prioritisation alongside leadership.
• Act as a representative of the team, communicating results to senior management and other departments.
• Deliver accurate and timely work, including quotes and projects, while reviewing and validating team outputs.
• Develop and apply appropriate pricing assumptions, supporting commercial negotiations when necessary.
• Balance commercial goals with risk considerations and articulate financial implications effectively.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships across teams and with clients.
• Lead and develop team members by providing feedback, fostering autonomy, and creating growth opportunities.
• Identify and implement process improvements, adopting new technologies where relevant.
• Contribute to assumption development and the creation of innovative propositions.
• Shape team culture and strategy, including non-technical aspects such as people and culture initiatives.
• Stay updated on industry trends and developments in the protection market.

• Qualified Actuary with substantial experience in life insurance or reinsurance.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the UK protection market.
• Proven leadership or management experience, including mentoring and performance feedback.
• Strong expertise in protection pricing, assumption setting, and experience analysis; reinsurance pricing knowledge is advantageous.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to navigate ambiguity.
• Proficient in communicating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Skilled in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration.
• Advanced proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Excel and Word, with familiarity in programming (R, Python, VBA) and Power BI being a plus.
