Job Details
As an Underwriter based in London working within SCOR’s Treaty team, you will review and underwrite Casualty treaty programmes for UK Insurance Companies, Lloyd’s Syndicates and Multinational clients placed in the London Market. You will be adding your specific personal skills and past experience to the highly experienced Casualty team located in London in order to achieve the objectives of this team within Scor P&C.
The Role
- You will help maintain and underwrite a profitable book of UK and London Market (Lloyd’s & Multinational clients) Casualty Treaty business, within a team environment.
- Assume responsibility for own designated accounts, and write new treaty business.
- Manage, drive and build overall relationships with clients within the allocated client segment, and steer global clients management approach for the team under the leadership of the UK Market Manager, and the Head of UK, Ireland, Nordics and Netherlands. Work closely with other P&C Treaty underwriters globally regarding Casualty business opportunities with common clients and/or a London Market element
- Support the development of the wider SCOR team and franchise, through close engagement with colleagues specializing in other LoBs and/or geographies, including participation in ad-hoc project work and some wider underwriting support.
Some of the key areas of responsibility will be:
Underwriting
- Coordinate and drive underwriting activities related to his/her designated area and clients
- In-depth technical analysis of treaty submissions and wordings, within the framework of SCOR Group Guidelines and in close liaison with actuarial / Underwriting Management units
- Prepare underwriting decision proposals for submission to and approval by the UK Market Manager and/or Head of UK, Ireland and Nordic and Netherlands, with escalation through to to Underwriting Management.
- Keep abreast of regulatory requirements and their impact on clients’ balance sheet, with a view to proposing alternative reinsurance solutions, in collaboration with the relevant SCOR network
- Review, prepare and sign wordings and other contractual documents
- Proactively monitor market developments, modelling changes, trends and cycles within the designated area and coordinate these findings internally
- Participate in the production of the Underwriting Plan with proposal of objectives, strategies, target clients and assume responsibility for the implementation and accuracy of the plan within his/her area of competence
- Monitor the accounting, accumulations and claims activity on the treaties written and follow up with clients / support team, where necessary
- Propose measures to improve treaty performance, where relevant
- Actively engage with the wider Scor Global Casualty community
- Support the unit in a wide range of common projects such as preparation of data for workshops, presentations, seminars & event planning
Marketing
- Represent SCOR at general & specific meetings with designated clients in conjunction with the Market Manager and/or other colleagues and/or SCOR Management as appropriate, and keep these recorded in the Salesforce database
- Prepare action plans and executive summaries in cooperation with colleagues and the Market Manager
- Engage with Client Managers where appropriate to ensure a joined-up client centric approach
Records and Reporting
- Is accountable for the efficient administration of assigned portfolio and the timely and accurate recording of such in SCOR’s IT systems, with the support of the Technical Acocunting team
- Monitor and report on incomes, aggregates and other exposures as necessary.
- Other ad hoc reporting to UK and Group management such as assessing exposures to market losses, quarterly renewal reporting etc
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and competencies:
Experience:
- Significant prior experience in Treaty environment, with a strong focus on Casualty Treaty LoBs
- Proven marketing & business development abilities
- Prior knowledge of London market
- Wordings experience Familiarity with pricing methodologies and actuarial principles
Personal Competencies:
- Highly numerate and analytical with excellent understanding of actuarial and pricing
- Good communicator / networker
- Strong negotiation skills and solution-minded
- Team-spirited but also a self–starter, able to work on own initiative
- Well organized with a good sense of priorities
- Resilient & flexible with the ability to work under pressure
Digital Competencies:
Strong IT skills are vital to the role:
- Excel - Advanced level (Pivot tables, formulae, VLook-up)

Required Education
- Higher Education to University level or similar standard preferred
- Further insurance or financial-related studies desirable e.g. ACII qualification or equivalent
- Actuarial qualifications are beneficial.
