Job Details

Fairbank Partners are looking for a recently qualified actuary (or equivalent) with extensive experience in General Insurance reserving, specifically in commercial lines or specialty lines exposure. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Reserving and will be responsible for day-to-day reserving tasks, which writes a wide range of commercial & specialty lines of business including Aviation, Energy, Marine, Accident & Health, Construction, and Casualty.

As a part of the job responsibilities, the candidate will handle reserving tasks such as Lloyd’s, UK GAAP, Solvency II, US Trust Fund, and Accident Year reserving best estimate and booked calculations, quarterly reserving documentation, presentation packs, and reports, and presenting findings to relevant committees.

The candidate will also lead reserving discussions with other areas of the business, including underwriting, reinsurance, finance, and claims to generate reserving results, liaise with the business to derive initial major loss estimates, assist in the review and implementation of reserving process enhancements, and provide assistance to the Finance, Claims, Reinsurance, and Underwriting teams as appropriate. The candidate will undertake portfolio analysis and pricing reviews.

The candidate will also be responsible for regulatory reporting duties such as assisting Finance in the production of Lloyd’s quarterly and annual management returns, production of Technical Provisions component of the annual Actuarial Function Report, maintenance of associated reserving frameworks and policies, and liaising with external SAO actuaries and auditors.

The ideal candidate should have excellent knowledge of actuarial reserving techniques and models on Lloyd’s, UK GAAP, and Solvency II bases, a minimum of 3-6 years of experience in reserving within a London Market environment, excellent IT skills, in particular SQL, strong analytical, technical, and presentational skills to enable the results of Actuarial analyses to be communicated to a non-actuarial audience. The ideal candidate should also have some knowledge or experience with Power BI, Psicle, and/or ResQ.
