The Lloyd's Market Association (LMA) provides technical and professional support to a £40bn premium market. JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for representing the interests of the actuarial and exposure management professionals in the Lloyd's market to all relevant stakeholders and driving the implementation of agreed initiatives to contribute to the success of LMA members and the market as a whole.

Provide technical subject matter expertise in reserving, pricing, modelling and exposure management to both LMA members and to other LMA teams.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide effective organization and co-ordination of the LMA committees and working groups noted below across all Lloyd's managing agents and members' agents. This includes setting the objectives and agenda for committees, ensuring priority issues are dealt with, engaging external experts and speakers where necessary and documenting and following up on agreed actions.

  • Committee of Actuaries in the Lloyd's Market (CALM) and sub groups
  • Exposure Management Group and sub groups
  • Sustainability Committee and Climate Risk working group (for actuarial, exposure and modelling matters)

Proactively build a network of strong relationships in market companies and in Lloyd's to understand their circumstances and needs on actuarial and exposure management related matters, so as to identify, assess and prioritise initiatives that will most benefit the market collectively.

Organise and host market wide forums and events for actuarial and exposure management professionals to communicate on topical issues. This will include engaging external advisors, subject matter experts and speakers.

Work independently to progress opportunities and see projects through to completion which have been approved to proceed by LMA leadership and the CALM / Exposure Management committees or working groups.

Challenge existing working practices in Lloyd's or managing agents' approach, working collaboratively to propose, gain consensus on and implement improved practices.

Display excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse groups, including senior executives, managers, and detailed subject matter experts.

Conduct market surveys, analyse and produce data, including trends and themes to inform relevant groups, committees and projects.

Support, and where required lead, elements of major change projects for the market whether of a technical and operational nature designed to enable the success of our members and the market.

Respond to LMA member (and other relevant) enquiries/requests for assistance in a timely and appropriate manner.

Maintain current knowledge of initiatives and developments within the LMA, Corporation of Lloyd's and other key areas of the market.

Contribute towards a culture of inclusive teamwork and shared communication both internally and externally.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree level education
  • At least part-qualified actuary

Experience

  • Experience in an insurance organization within the actuarial or exposure management functions

Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of insurance reserving, modelling and pricing best practice
  • Sound knowledge of exposure management techniques and exposure modelling products
  • Sound knowledge of the features of the London insurance and subscription market
  • Good knowledge of current regulatory requirements affecting actuarial functions
  • Good knowledge of insurance financials, including accounting and capital and solvency requirements.

General Skills / Attributes

  • Able to analyse and understand data and customer business needs and translate them into practical actions.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships and influence others at all levels internally and externally, being flexible in approach and having the courage to challenge when appropriate.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to present ideas clearly, concisely and with confidence.
  • Comfortable taking ownership for work, prioritising and completing work to appropriate deadlines, whilst working effectively within a team.
