Our Pricing Department is a rapidly expanding function which focuses on delivering long term value for our customers rather than working to short-term profit targets. Following substantial investment in technology and with the contribution of a 50 strong team with a diverse skill set, the department is shaping to be a cutting-edge hub of expertise with ambitious growth plans.

We are now seeking an experienced Pricing professional to join us and become part of our success story. As a Modelling Consultant within the team, you will be responsible for leading the development of General Insurance pricing models for a defined product range. You will strive to continually deliver improved model accuracy and generate new insight that will support enhanced decision making.

Other key accountabilities for the role include:

  • Development of new modelling methodologies (e.g. machine learning techniques) to extract more value and insight out of existing datasets
  • Identifying and testing new pricing model data to improve understanding, performance and ‘predictiveness‘
  • Executing the ‘expert judgement’ process in collaboration with Underwriting, to ensure rates and rating logic are informed with the benefit of deep insurance and market knowledge
  • Building and maintaining influential and two-way relationships with the Risk and Street Pricing community, as well as Underwriting to ensure effective delivery
  • Coach and develop direct reports so that they know what is expected and to maximise their contribution to business objectives.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an individual with experience of pricing within general insurance, with explicit accountability for the technical development of modelling. Applications are also welcome from professionals with experience from other regulated financial sectors such as banking or energy provided you can demonstrate prior experience with machine learning and predictive analysis.

The successful candidate will have experience of running multiple streams of work simultaneously and will also have experience of building and using pricing models (loss cost and/or demand models), ideally using Emblem or R.

As a senior member of the team, we hope that you will have experience of conducting peer reviews of models, will have strong influencing skills with the ability to establish effective relationships with stakeholders and will have expert product knowledge for your specific model sector.

Candidates will hold, or be working towards, one of the following: A numerical related degree, ACII, Accountancy Qualification (ACA/ACCA), MBA or FIA.

What we can offer

Here at NFU Mutual we pride ourselves on being “a great place to work” and have again been presented with the Gallup Great Workplace Award. Along with a supportive culture you can also look forward to some very attractive reward benefits such as:

  • Competitive salary
  • Annual bonus (up to 17.5%)
  • Contributory pension scheme (maximum of 12% company contribution)
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (additional holiday purchase scheme)
  • Employee discounts
  • Gym subsidy
  • Health and wellbeing plan
  • Discounted Insurance on all NFU Mutual Policies
