Non-Executive Director, Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee

As a Mutual Friendly Society, Holloway Friendly has been supporting its members at times of need since 1875. We embarked on a root-and-branch strategic review programme 3 years ago and are now growing rapidly.  We have ambition to maintain this trajectory and for the Society to be major player in its chosen markets.

Our Board ensures the proper running of the Society on behalf of its members and has been strengthened as part of our strategic review. We are now recruiting an independent Non-Executive Director who is suitably experienced and qualified to take on the role of Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee.

This role is of strategic importance for the ongoing effective governance of the Society, specifically to oversee the Society’s:

  • capital management
  • financial and investment reporting
  • internal financial control
  • conduct and risk management
  • internal and external audit
  • actuarial and regulatory reporting and compliance

This role will require an individual from an accounting or actuarial background with extensive knowledge of the financial statements of a Solvency II insurance company, the UK financial services landscape (including distribution), and the PRA/FCA regulatory framework.

The successful applicant will demonstrate strategic thinking, risk management and an understanding and respect for the difference between executive and non-executive responsibilities. They will be willing to support the Society’s values and are likely to have held previous senior leadership roles in:

  • A UK life protection company (life insurer, mutual insurer or friendly society)
  • A reinsurer
  • A professional services consulting business (accountancy, audit, actuarial)

The following additional experience would be helpful but not essential:

  • Financial services product development (ideally protection)
  • Investment strategy design and execution
  • Systems and change

To apply for this role please submit a copy of your CV and a covering letter outlining

  • Why you wish to be considered for this role
  • Why you feel you are suited for it
  • Your non-executive experience

Please email documents to hr@holloway.co.uk.
