Learning platform Skillsoft polled more than 2,100 full-time staff in the three countries and found that only 48% knew their organisations’ priorities for the next 12 months. Of those who had been informed, only 40% were “extremely clear” about their role in achieving these goals, and just a third thought their skills strongly aligned with them.

Only 23% felt “extremely prepared” to handle future work-related challenges. A fifth identified lack of training and skills development as their primary work-related challenge in the past year, although 31% had received upskilling opportunities or access to new technologies such as generative AI tools.

The top work-related challenges in 2024 were exhaustion, cited by 39% of employees, decreased motivation or engagement, reported by 35%, and overwhelming workloads and responsibilities, also mentioned by 35%.
