Job Details

The role sits within the Global Actuarial Solutions (GAS) Team, part of the Aviva Group function, reporting into the Head of Capital and Asset Modelling.

The team develops key actuarial systems which are used throughout the Group including the Internal Model, Standard Formula, Partial Internal Model, Credit Risk Model, and the Asset & Liability Stressing System. They are all key components of Aviva’s Solvency II Internal Model for Economic Capital reporting; providing capital calculation capability across the group.

You will embrace changes both actuarially and technologically. For example, you will understand, implement and challenge proposed changes in capital calculation methodology. You may also pick up a new programming language, learn state-of-the-art cloud computing technology, and work closely with our back-end developers on system integration.

Since our systems deliver to all users globally, you will talk and listen to our customers constantly, understand their needs and answer their queries daily. You will therefore enjoy the variety of user requests, taking personal responsibility for your own workload, continually reorganising and prioritising to ensure our customers get the best service possible.

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Gathering requirements for the development of the actuarial systems from users throughout the business.
  • Prioritising requirements and planing for future releases of these tools.
  • Finding opportunities for the automation and improvement of Aviva’s Capital Production processes.
  • Building the required systems within an Agile development environment.
  • Assisting users with BAU requests and pro-actively facilitating resolution of user issues/concerns.
  • Communicating and demonstrating new tools and features to partners throughout Aviva.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent).
  • Strong MS Excel and VBA skills.
  • Experience of Economic Capital calculation and systems.
  • Solvency II standard formula calculation experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple workstreams for long term planning.
  • Able to understand complex actuarial systems and the business processes which they support, and to understand the impact of the changes being tested.

What will you get for this role?

  • A salary between £60,000-£75,000 depending on skills, experience and qualifications;
  • Generous defined contribution pension scheme;
  • Annual performance related bonus and pay review;
  • 29 days plus bank holidays and the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days;
  • Up to 40% discount for some Aviva products through “My Aviva Extras” plus discounts for Friends and Family (some exclusions apply);
  • Excellent range of flexible benefits to include a matching share save scheme.

Additional Information and Equal Opportunity

One of Aviva’s core values is Care More, and this is brought to life through the flexible ways we like to work. This may include working from home some of the time, or flexible work schedules to accommodate parent and carer responsibilities, further studies and hobbies.

Our diversity and inclusion policies and initiatives are crafting an environment where everyone feels welcome regardless of age, disability, race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, religion, culture, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, pregnancy, maternity or those with other caring responsibilities. Our approach helps to ensure that Aviva is a place which values difference and provides equal opportunities for all.

As a disability confident employer, we guarantee to interview anyone with a disability (as defined in The Equality Act 2010), whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post. (By ‘minimum criteria’ we mean that you must provide us with evidence which demonstrates that you generally meet the level of competence required, as well as meeting any of the qualifications, skills or experience defined as essential). Please apply through the website and then email the contact listed in the advert to notify us that you meet the conditions for the guaranteed interview scheme.

We prefer all applications to be submitted online, however if you require an alternative method of applying please contact Daniela Krol in the Resourcing team on 0121 234 7660 or daniela.krol@aviva.com.
